Part 2 of the Disclaimer

This section elaborates on the true elements that inspired aspects of the novel, while reaffirming its status as autofiction. The Reedley Biolab Investigation is the central tent pole holding up the "inspired by true events" claim of this novel. As autofiction, the novel employs certain real events that I've encountered or researched to weave a fictionalized narrative.

My goal is to alert and entertain readers about patterns and possibilities I observed, and not assert unproven facts. Through Xavier's eyes, I capture the essence of my personal observations and experiences via invented characters, conversations, and scenarios. Readers are encouraged to emotionally engage with the story, relying solely on the fact of the Congressional Investigation and the list below of other facts that inspired the creation of this story.

The Reedley Biolab Investigation

The U.S. Congress' investigation into the illegal Biolab in Reedley, California (near Fresno), was conducted by the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party. The first subpoena was issued in September or November 2023, and the investigation concluded with a comprehensive report issued in November 2023, publicly available for download on this website or Congress' own site.

This report documents the existence of the lab and related concerns, shaping the speculative framework for protagonist Xavier's story without claiming to depict exact events or individuals.

Other Events That Inspired This Story

This Fiction is Inspired by True Events

The foregoing is a list of true events that inspired the story, presented as imaginative hearsay and opinion. No portrayal is intended to defame or invade privacy; resemblances are substantially coincidental. No person should rely on any element of the story told here to be true and factual. This is fiction, not scholarly or even journalistic.

Claims of media suppression are often described as baseless and unproven. I let the reader be the judge. Nothing in this work is intended to impugn the character of any specific real-world individual, group or community—rather it is a tale about human frailties that can lead to collective errors, as happened with the Salem Witch Trials. As humans we each warrant empathy for our shared weaknesses.

Readers are invited to enjoy the story and take to heart the difficulty of sustaining free societies that are also well governed.

"I've built pathways and walls in the software that's all around us, but Life in Woke America illustrates how they change in a world gone woke."
